There's no stopping gravity as you get older. With time your once smooth skin can develop wrinkles. Bags can for under your eyes. Double chins can develop. Luckily, a facelift can correct all these things and help to battle the forces of aging.

What improvements can facelifts make?

Facelifts correct wrinkled or sagging facial skin that develops with age. The procedure tightens the skin to achieve a more youthful appearance. Many people also combine a facelift with upper eyelid blepharoplasty and lower eyelid blepharoplasty in order to correct wrinkled eyelids. Necklifts are also common in conjunction with facelifts to remove double chins or to achieve a more chiseled upper jaw line.

Lying on your back with a mirror can be a good way to determine what you will look like after a facelift. Have a friend gently push your skin downward while you look in the mirror. If you like what you see, you may want to look further into getting a facelift.

How much does a facelift cost?

National averages have shown facelifts to cost anywhere between $6000 and $15,000. These prices vary so greatly because the price of your facelift will depend on how much work you'd like done. For example, if you need neck and eyelid work done in addition to tightening sagging skin, you can expect to spend a lot more than someone who just desires a standard facelift. You will also encounter a few other fees. There is usually a fee for the anesthetic ranging from $1000 to $1300. Also, be prepared for a facilities fee between $500 and $2000. Of course, fees between doctors vary as well. Urban doctors, for example, will generally charge more than doctors in rural areas.

How long will it take after a facelift to be back on my feet?

Compared with other procedures, facelifts have very little recovery time. At first you may experience some pain and swelling. Your doctor will give you prescription pain killers to minimize discomfort. You should feel like your old self in a matter of days and the swelling should recede. After about two weeks any bruising from the surgery should be gone. Facelifts do leave scars, however they are usually tucked under the hairline. The scar will wither and blend with the skin with time.
